Welcome to the Lonsdale House

Welcome to the Lonsdale House. It's located in Oakwood, Ohio, a small city just adjacent to Dayton. Oakwood is the home of the famous Wright Brothers and their estate, Hawthorn Hill, sits on a lovely green hill just blocks from the Lonsdale House, which was built in the 1920s. Come on in and let me give you a tour of this charming Dutch Colonial.

Would you like to sit for a spell on the front porch? There are two sets of French doors leading out from the living room to the Front Porch, where you can relax and take in the beauty of the Maple, Oak, and Pear Trees that line and overhang the quiet street.


Professional Landscaping was added to the front and back in 2008. Vinyl siding makes for low maintenance.

The Living Room

Hardwood Floors, high ceilings, french doors, and neutral River Reed paint welcome you as you enter the Living Room. Beautifully preserved original millwork, multi-paned windows and period details provide all the charm associated with 1920s craftsmanship and attention to detail.  A coat closet is conveniently located off the front entrance. Large cased opening to the Dining Room gives the sense of airy openness.

 

The Mainfloor Study

The Mainfloor Study, just off the Living Room, is surrounded by beautiful multipaned windows which fill the room with natural light.

The Dining Room

Lighted built-in corner cabinet, crown molding and large cased openings to the living room, family room, and kitchen give the large dining room openness and charm.

The Family Room

Oversized windows on three sides send loads of sunshine streaming into the Family Room. With shuttered double doors leading in from the Dining Room, a large lighted closet and a door to the Mainfloor bathroom (with shower), the family room could also be used as a Master Bedroom retreat. Neutral carpet and Copley Grey walls.

The Mainfloor Bathroom

Accessed just off the family room, the Mainfloor bathroom was renovated in 2008. A new shower with sparkling white subway tiling and chrome fixtures, white wall cabinets and vanity and pewter and chrome accents are highlights of the newly remodeled bath. Deep red walls and Pergo flooring complement the crisp white furnishings and tile.

The Kitchen

Stainless Steel appliances, Pergo floors, Recessed Lighting, and Kraftmaid cabinets in Bisque Glaze are highlights of the well-appointed kitchen.

Pantry cupboards go quite deep for storage. Opposite the pantry is the door leading downstairs to the playroom, storage and laundry areas.

Sliding Glass Door leads out to the deck...very convenient for dining al fresco.

The Back Views

Our driveway is very long, with enough room for two cars to park in front of the gate which spans the driveway, and two cars to park behind the gate in front of the detached two car garage. When the gate is closed, it provides plenty of room for children to play on the driveway in the comfort, safety and privacy of their own backyard. The backyard is fully enclosed by a new wood fence, built in 2007.

Everyone has a place to relax or play in the yard. Soft green grass to play on, a mulched playyard with playset for children, or a beautiful large deck on which to kick back or entertain. Take your pick.

You can access this part of the deck from the kitchen through a sliding glass door.

Or you can sit out here and enjoy your morning coffee. The family room opens up to this part of the deck through another sliding glass door.

Lovely old trees provide shade for the yard and beauty in the Fall.

The Upstairs Study

 Off the upstairs landing, a charming nook serves as another study. It is wired for phone, electric, and internet and has overhead cabinets and shelving for storage. This cozy little workspace can be easily converted to an storage additional closet with a quick installation of the door.
